Gibson A-50 Mandolin Excellent 1947. Condition is "Used". This mandolin just received new frets, dressing and leveling from MacBlaine Instrument Repair in Preble, NY. The original pick guard was deteriorating and removed. It comes with the original hard shell case. The top has the slightest flattening from years of tension. This is a carved, figured maple instrument with tone bar construction. The decal is from the US Army AirCorps which was disbanded in 1947 and became the US Air Force. This mandolin screams. The tone is huge. Each note is very distinct and articulate. The mandolin also has a good chop. This was the model used by bluegrass legend, Buzz Busby in the Washington, DC bluegrass scene in the 50’s and 60’s. A great example! Shipping via UPS only do to slow and sporadic postal service.
